Special Trains Between Rameswaram And Madurai For Abdul Kalam’s Funeral: The railways had announced that is is going to run special trains between Rameswaram and Madurai expecting a rush of passengers for Abdul Kalam’s Funeral.

The railways on Wednesday announced that it will run a set of special trains between Madurai and the coastal town Rameswaram anticipating a rush of passengers to Rameswaram who want to attend the funeral of former President A P J Abdul Kalam on Thursday.

 

 

 

A special train will leave Madurai at 7.30am and reach Rameswaram at 10.30am according to a statement received from the Madurai Railway Division. The train will leave Rameswaram at 2pm and reach Madurai at 5pm in the return direction.

 

The composition of the train will be seven second class sleeper coaches, eight general second class coaches, and two luggage cum brake vans. It will stop at Manamadurai, Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram, Manamadurai, Mandapam, and Pamban in both directions.

The railways had announced its decision to add more coaches to a passenger train running between Madurai and Rameswaram and to alter its timings for the benefit of people who want to attend the funeral.

According to a statement from the Madurai Railway Division, Train Number 56723 Madurai – Rameswaram passenger leaving Madurai at 6.55am on Thursday and reaching Rameswaram at 10.35am will have four general second class coaches and one luggage-cum-brake van with accommodation for the disabled, in addition to the existing nine general second class coaches and two luggage cum brake vans.

In the return direction, train number 56722, leaving Rameswaram at 11.50 am, is rescheduled to leave at 1 pm, and will reach here by 6 pm. This train will also have the same number of additional coaches.

Meanwhile Chennai based Parveen travels has announced that it will offer free rides from Chennai to Rameswaram as a tribute to the former president Kalam.

A Afzal MD of Parveen travels said “Yesterday we ran six to seven buses from Chennai to Rameshwaram. Today five buses so far.”
